Enets

Enetsis indigenous population of the Taimyr (Dolgan-Nenets) Autonomous Area of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. They live mainly in the Ust-Yenisei district (Potapovsky and Vorontsovsky village councils) and on the territory of the Dudinsky City Council.
According to the 1989 census, there were 209 Ents, some of them were recorded by Nenets and Nganasans. According to the 2002 census – 327 people, 2010 – 227 people .
An ethnonym "ents" was adopted in the 1930s, from enneche (man).. Previously, the Ents were called Yenisey, Khantay (tundra ents) and Karasin (forest ents) Samoyeds – after the name of the encampments where they brought yasak (tax).
Language belongs to the Samoyed branch of the Uralic family of languages, divided into 2 dialects – tundra, or Khanty (Madu-Baza), and forest, or Karasinsky (Bai-Baza). 75% of Enets are fluent in Russian, 38% consider it their native language, and Enets also use the Nenets language freely.
According to their anthropological appearance, the Ents belong to the Ural group of anthropological types.
