NEFU scientists have digitized a unique record from 1935
Scientists at North-Eastern Federal University have digitized a 1935 recording of the voice of the Even Soviet writer, poet, and founder of Even literature Nikolai Tarabukin. The unique artifact was discovered by Afanasy Migalkin, director of the NEFU Museum of Writing, while working in the archive Institute of Linguistic Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg. The presentation of the recording took place at the VIII Congress of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
The recording was decrypted by NEFU scientists and transferred to digital media. And it was presented to the participants of the Congress. "The recording is very old, the words "Саҥа хаарынан хаамаммын/ Суругу-бичиги сөбүлээтим (Sana haarynan haamammyn / Surugu-bichigi sobuletim)" were caught and translated only by separate phrases. According to these records, the text of the performance was compared and it was determined that this was a line from a poem by Nikolai Tarabukin. The record is stored on wax cylinders (FV 4177) of the Institute of Russian Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences. And in 2001, UNESCO included a collection of these recordings in the "Memory of the World" program. It is worth noting that today's event is a new round of development of the Even, Evenk, Chukchi, Yukaghir, Dolgan languages. This is a continuation of the best traditions laid down in the early years of the last century by outstanding scientists of Northern studies," said Varvara Belolyubskaya, Associate Professor at the Institute of Languages and Culture of the Peoples of the North–East of the Russian Federation at NEFU.
She said that the founder of Even literature, Nikolai Tarabukin, after graduating from the Institute of the Peoples of the North in Leningrad, returned to his native Momsky district, where he taught children the Even language and collected folklore. "In each of his poems, Nikolai Tarabukin used figurative words that characterize the white expanses of the tundra. In his works, he always used the epithet "bright", "sun", he dedicated everything bright, bright, warm to his people," added Varvara Belolyubskaya.
